The Dish: Spoon and Seed Sprouts in Hyannis

Dennis and Deb Mason have been frequenting Spoon and Seed since it opened in Hyannis two years ago. Why do they love this local hot spot? This rustic yet hip restaurant has one of the best breakfast and lunch menus on Cape Cod, however, it's not just the food that makes this place amazing, it's the people, the passion, and the talent behind it. Owners Matt and Andrea Tropeano traded their big city lifestyle and paychecks, working in some of the most prestigious restaurant establishments in Dallas, TX and New York City, to return back to Cape Cod. They grew relationships with local farmers and growers, and from there, they grew a vision... cooking real food from locally sourced ingredients and pairing that with their love of service, passion for culinary creation, and their expertise in the restaurant business. A modest beginning, the Tropeano's opened Spoon and Seed's doors on a low budget, eco-friendly design, with virtually no advertising and a grassroots approach.

Spoon and Seed was built with an old school philosophy of resourcefulness and ingenuity. The same way that a great chef does not waste a morsel in the kitchen and creates a flavorful meal with humble ingredients, the design of Spoon and Seed was executed by repurposing furniture, wood pallets and all the good scraps available. Tables tops have been hand crafted from salvaged flooring from a house in Sandwich, simple Mason jars are disguised as light fixtures, and even the breakfast counter was constructed from the Murph’s Recession’s old bar with pine wood from New Hampshire. Spoon and Seed was envisioned to be an honest local eatery “cooking and serving with love” year round. The Tropeano family welcomes you.

Dennis and Deb love supporting this local family. They started with a dream, and with creativity, dedication, perseverance, and authenticity, they have brought this vision to life and created a success. The Masons relate to this couple's vision for their business, their will to support their family while nurturing their dreams and passions, and their pride in Cape Cod and fortitude in making a difference locally. Deb comments, "This restaurant has brought the dining experience to a whole new level on Cape Cod. We love the food and the atmosphere. There is always something new and exciting on the menu, and you are always greeted with a smile in this lively yet down to earth spot. There is no other way we would consider spending our hard earned dollars than by supporting local businesses. We, too, were once a young couple with a dream, and while we continue to build our future on Cape Cod, we honor the Tropeano family for doing so also. They have done and continue to do an amazing job at reinventing the restaurant culture on Cape Cod while nurturing the farm to table concept and supporting local farms and growers themselves."

Spoon and Seed's eclectic menu boasts everything from BBQ & Burritos for breakfast to Salads, Plated Seafood, and Crafted Sandwiches for lunch. The chimichurri sauce and grilled focaccia served with their Omelet is amazing. Looking for a side of something? How about their spicy Smoked Chorizo or Corned Beef Hash (out of this world!). Lunch goers treat yourself to a delicious Pulled Pork sandwich served on a challah bun or try the yummy Spoon Burger. If you walk on the vegetarian or vegan side, no problem... The menu offers selections for all, including the Hippie Burger, an herbed chickpea patty, served with pickled red onions, roasted red peppers, feta, hot pepper yogurt sauce on house made foccacia or a bed of greens.

The Masons often enjoy a brunch on the weekends, or occasionally a mid-week lunch at Spoon and Seed. In the busy business and shopping district of Hyannis, this restaurant provides the perfect spot for any occasion. The menu changes seasonally and the chef makes sure there is something to please every palette. There's a reason why the hand crafted wood tables are always full and the mason jar light fixtures are illuminating a full house. Everybody seems to enjoy themselves when they come to Spoon and Seed. Locals and visitors can't get enough of this place and we love it too!
