The Dish: Viera Restaurant Creates Great Vibes and Amazing Food & Drink in Harwich
Dennis and Deb Mason have been frequenting Viera for the past two years. Enter into the former Friendly’s Restaurant on Route 28 in Harwich and you are suddenly in a French Bistro. Owners Angie and Ben Porter have created a true to the definition “farm-to-table” restaurant embracing the local farming and fishing communities. Both Angie and Ben grew up in Harwich and upon graduating from high school left the state. Ben credits his success to starting his career later in life after dabbling in other venues. His true chef career began at 902 Main St. in Yarmouth where he was able to flourish under the guidance of chef Gil Pepin. Angie also worked in the restaurant industry at the Ocean House in Dennisport where she learned to run the front of the house.
The name Viera is the Portuguese word for scallop, which is to honor both of their heritages, as Angie is of Portuguese descent and Ben is the son of a scallop fisherman. All of the seafood served at Viera comes from Cape Cod. The meats are sourced for the restaurant and are hormone and antibiotic free. Everything that comes out of the kitchen is prepared within the restaurant - Breads, pastries, ice creams, sorbets and even cocktail mixes are made from scratch. Every dish and beverage is artfully presented by servers who display a plethora of food and wine knowledge. Viera’s food and cocktail menu change seasonally. The menu offers something for everyone from locally farm sourced salads, fish, poultry, beef and vegetarian dishes. There is an extensive wine list and choice of beers, some locally sourced as well. The cocktail menu is unique and offers a metropolitan vibe. Viera has a cozy bar along with high top tables and the dining room has booths and tables.
Deb and Dennis enjoy dinner often and will frequently stop in for a glass of wine and an appetizer at the bustling bar which hosts diners from all over the world. On any given night you can break bread with a native Harwich resident and visitors from United Kingdom.
